Photoshoot Clothing Ideas for Autumn: A Visual Guide

Here at Cherrie Coutts Photography, one of the most common questions I get from clients is what to wear on a photoshoot. Normally, I would send a descriptive email explaining photoshoot clothing ideas, but as I am a visual person I thought it best to actually create a visual guide for people to take in.

Autumn, Fall, Höst, whatever you call it, is one of the most beloved seasons all over the world. The changing of the leaves, the gorgeous reds, oranges and browns that dominate the landscape, the pumpkin spice lattes, and, of course HALLOWEEN! I LOVE Halloween, it’s probably my favourite happening of the year next to Christmas.

I always ask couples to try and match each other a little bit, or even better, try and match the location of their photoshoot to some extent. This isn’t to say you need to go and dress like you’re spending the weekend at a log cabin the mountains and trying to avoid the serial killer that’s surely stalking you, but being aware of colours can be very beneficial. And not just the colours of your surroundings, but each other’s colours as well.

Autumn is also a great time to get out those scarves and darker colours you’ve been dying to wear since buying them in the summer sales. Orange is always a favourite, as are blues and reds and even some pastels like in the first image. Gold can also be a fantastic colour for Autumn photoshoots and if you love playing in those leaves like I do, be sure to think of an extra change of clothes, especially for the kids!

Below you can see some Photoshoot clothing ideas that have worked really well for some of my couples clients during the Autumnal months. As you can see, some chose to be very formal, while others opted for a more casual approach, but in each case, they are either matching each other or their surroundings or even both.
